Paula Goss, owner and manager of Fuller's Home & Hardware, 35 E. First St., is grateful to just be open during the stringent COViD-19 restrictions. "We're lucky that we're considered essential," Goss remarked. She said the store experienced high demand for household and cleaning supplies at the outset of the pandemic, just as other area...

  • Mood swings a symptom of lockdown for me

    Pamela Lannom|Updated Apr 1, 2020

Despite my attempts to keep a positive attitude as we shelter in place, I'm not doing as well as I'd like. My husband's cousin was hospitalized Monday with COVID-19. She is on an antibiotic, her brother told us, and the doctor is optimistic about how her lungs sound. My mom, her sweetheart and my father-in-law are all in lockdown at their assisted living facility. So far no cases have been reported in their building, but someone in the nursing home across the parking lot has...

  • CEOs can learn from kids in handling COVID-19

    Teri Goudie|Updated Apr 1, 2020

We were all a child once and now perhaps it is time to act like a child again. That sage advice is not a unique thought. It originates from Mr. Fred Rogers, the same television personality who once advised us to look for the helpers in times of crisis. When you look for the helpers, you find hope. When you think, and act like a child, you find healing. It is interesting that during this time like no other there are three simple things making a difference: open minds,...

  • Fellow Hinsdaleans encouraged to fly stars and stripes

Let’s show our solidarity, Hinsdale. — Marie Trader, Hinsdale...

  • Lessons learned from 'My Corona'

    Katie Hughes|Updated Apr 1, 2020

Three weeks ago, I had it all. I was the lead in my school musical, "Footloose," I was going to Disney World, and I was anticipating the excitement that comes with the end of senior year. Then everything I was so certain about, everything that had been keeping me motivated for the past few months, was turned upside down. Disney World closed, canceling the trip I had looked forward to for months. School was out for two weeks, and school activities were closed for more than a...

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” — John Wesley Is this ever a time to do good. Normally we would extol the virtues of altruism in this space the first week of April because it’s National Volunteer Month. The volunteers who were busy organizing spring and summer fu...
