St. Pats Day crackdown unlucky for some drivers

Hinsdale police have announced the results of the St. Patrick’s Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.

Officers made one arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol and issued seven seat-belt citations, along with 13 citations for speeding, three for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, two for underage possession of cannabis, one for driving with an expired license, one for distracted driving and 10 for other violations.

“Impaired drivers are a risk to everyone on the road,” said Hinsdale Deputy Police Chief Thomas Lillie. “We strongly enforce traffic laws for one reason — to save lives.”

Hinsdale police joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for the campaign, which was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation as part of statewide campaigns.
