Teaching "dancing and decorum" to eighth-graders is the goal of the program, which has been offered since 1958 in the community.     Students of BAMtheatre's Junior Conservatory Ensemble spent almost a year doing in-depth training on musical theater techniques and creation. The students, in third through eighth grade, came up with ideas and wrote an original play and lyrics for four musicals that were filmed in front of a green screen last month.   • District 86 opens doors for vaccination site

    Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South high schools served as COVID-19 vaccinations sites Feb. 4-6. The first groups to receive the first dose of the vaccine were Hinsdale High School District 86 employees and vendors as well as employees feeder districts, the La Grange Area Department of Special Education and essential workers in category 1b from nearby towns.   • Union Church volunteers serving up gourmet meals for PADS clients

    More than a dozen volunteers from Union Church spent the better part of the day Jan. 26 under the direction and help of chef and restaurant owner Paul Virant, preparing and cooking a meals for 160 clients of PADS. The meals were packaged individually and delivered to area hotels, where the clients are staying during the pandemic.     Students who took the Illinois Chess Teachers chess camp at The Community House played both indoors and outdoors. While playing outdoors, teacher Paul Raso was able to dissect and teach the moves as two teams tried their best to capture their opponent's king.     The Hinsdale Dance Academy held their eighth annual dance recital as a socially distanced drive-in theater in July. Through eight performances over two days the performers were kept apart on stage and off. Parents and friends watched from cars or on lawn chairs near the parking lot.   • Balloon launch helps friends say farewell

    Kendall Miller writes a message to Monica Rincon Dooley before hundreds of balloons are launched in her memory July 8 at Robbins Park. The launch was planned by friends of Monica, who had passed away two days earlier at age 49. The white ribbons tied around trees in town also are in her memory.     Gerrie Picchietti celebrated her 90th birthday with a parade and neighborhood "party" in front of her home in Graue Mill. And while the wind prevented the lighting of the candles on her cake, it didn't stop the crowd from singing a rousing "Happy Birthday."
