Maureen McNally Walsh

Maureen McNally Walsh, 76, of Clarendon Hills, formerly of Hinsdale, died March 30, 2024.

She was born in 1947 to Bernard and Eleanor McNally.

Maureen was a graduate of Edgewood College in Madison, Wis., and held master’s degrees from Northwestern University and Rosary College. She was a librarian and teacher for the entirety of her career. From her days as a reference librarian in Downers Grove to establishing surgical libraries at the University of Chicago to teaching children to read at Seward Academy in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, Maureen was always a success. That continued success led her to have a long and fruitful career.

Maureen was proud of her academic and career accomplishments, but more so of her personal ones. In addition to her family, she enjoyed the many long-lasting friendships developed through the years. Whether from her days at Edgewood, her time at CPS or the many dear neighbors in Hinsdale (the Fourth of July was never a quiet one), she made many life-long friends. She will be missed by all.

Maureen’s life was full of love, intellect and friendship. It was a life well-lived.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerard P. Walsh Sr .; her sister, Nancy (the late Peter) Kula; her in-laws, James and Esther (nee McHugh) Walsh; her siblings-in-law, James (Janet) and (the late Joan), Robert (the late Carol) and John.

She is survived by her children, Gerard Jr. (Natalie), Erin Walsh and Colleen Walsh; her granddaughter, Madeline; her siblings, Jean (Richard Jilek) McNally, Deborah (the late Ronald) Zwarycz and Bernard (Mary) McNally; her sister-in-law, Patricia (Michael) Purcell; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is from 3 to 8 today, April 4, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St. Hinsdale. Family and friends will meet for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, at Notre Dame Church, 64 Norfolk Ave, Clarendon Hills.
