Mary Margaret Feely

Mary Margaret "Peggy" Feely, 93 a longtime Clarendon Hills resident, died peacefully Dec. 30, 2023.

Mary was born in 1930 to William and Etta Johnston in London, Ontario, Canada. In 1952, she graduated from Hamilton General Hospital as a registered nurse. She would move to the United States to work in her field. She loved working at Chicago Welsey Memorial Hospital, now known as Northwestern Memorial, in surgery on the orthopedic floor.

Mary married Leon "Lee" Feely, a Chicago native, and they would go on to have two children, Mary Ellen and Catherine. Mary became a citizen of the United States in November 1968. She was a longstanding member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale, actively involved in the Altar Guild and Grace Episcopal Churchwomen. There she developed many lifelong friendships. She volunteered with many organizations, including St. Thomas Hospice. Mary loved spending time sewing, needle pointing, knitting and doing crossword puzzles. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandson, Henry, whom she adored.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon A. Feely, in 1997; her daughter, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Reynolds in 2023; and her brother, Ted, in 2021.

She is survived by her daughter, Catherine (John) Price; her grandchildren, Charles, Mary Elizabeth, Lee and Jane; her great-grandson, Henry; and her siblings, Jane and Jim.

A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Interment is at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.
