ATHLETES COMMIT TO COLLEGE PLAY

The Hinsdale Central Athletic Department hosted and College Signing and Recognition Day event Feb. 7. The following athletes were recognized.

• Adriana Hodneland, track and field, Washington and Lee University

• Siena Steines, volleyball, Wesleyan University

At Nazareth Academy in LaGrange Park, John Hughes of Hinsdale has committed to play baseball at the University of North Carolina — Chapel Hill.

HOCKEY PLAYERS EARN RECOGNITION

Seven members of the Hinsdale Central Red Devil hockey team have been recognized by Illinois West for their performance and will represent the club in various games in March.

• Jack Crabb will play in the All Conference game at 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, at West Meadows Ice Arena

• Nate Anderson, Dylan Dwyer and Will Romberger and will play in the IL West Varsity All Stars game at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Rocket Ice Arena

• Mason Baskel, Nate Conway and Noah Rzeppa will compete in the IL West JV All Stars game at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 10 at Rocket Ice Arena

GUTMAN RELISHES MLS Homecoming

Major League Soccer player and Hinsdale native Andrew Gutman recently saw his journey come full circle when he was acquired by his hometown Chicago Fire FC.

Gutman, who played for Chicago Fire Academy in his youth, was traded by the Colorado Rapids to Chicago on Dec. 12. Prior to Colorado, the 2015 Hinsdale Central graduate had stints with FC Cincinnati, the New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United. In an interview with his new team, the 27-year-old defender said he envisioned returning to the organization that had laid the foundation for his success. “I wanted the prime of my career to be with Chicago. I feel like these upcoming years are going to be probably the best level I’m going to be able to play at, and I wanted to be able to play for Chicago while doing that,” he said.

The Fire open the 2024 season Feb. 24 at Philadelphia Union before hosting FC Cincinnati March 2 at Soldier Field in the home opener.

collignon snares LAX LAURELS

Yale University women’s lacrosse player Jenna Collignon of Hinsdale has been named honorable mention Preseason All-America by both ILWomen and USA Lacrosse. Collignon enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023, earning unanimous first team All-Ivy League recognition and second team IWLCA All-Northeast Region recognition. The 2020 Hinsdale Central graduate finished third in the Ivy League in goals with 53 and second in points with 65. Nationally she ranked 25th in goals per game with 3.12.

Yale opens the season on Feb. 17 at home against Stanford University.
