Donald B. Moritz

Donald B. Mortiz, 96, of Hinsdale, passed away from heart failure Aug. 19, 2023.

Don was born in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1927 to Donald and Frances Moritz.

Don served in the U.S. Navy in 1945-46 after graduation from St. Thomas Military Academy and later graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Don began his business career in 1950 in Minneapolis, eventually moving to Cleveland then to Arlington Heights, where he raised his family. He later moved into a management position with AXIA Inc of Oakbrook and eventually moved to Clarendon Hills for convenience and then to Hinsdale in retirement.

Don was a licensed professional engineer in three states, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Scaffolding and Shoring Institute (founder and past president), Mensa, and is listed in Who's Who.

Don was active in retirement, traveling, playing tennis, pursuing his photography hobby and later rekindling his love for music and starting a band with fellow musicians. He continued to travel with Jurate and enjoy retired life to its fullest.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, in 2004; and his younger brother, Robert.

He is survived by his second wife, Jurate Zeimaitiene; his three children, Craig, Pam (Johnson) and Brian; his six grandchildren; his seven great grandchildren; and his stepdaughter, Egle.

At Don's request, he was cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
