Close call

Hinsdale firefighters quickly put out a garage fire Saturday morning before it could spread to a nearby home. The fire was reported by the next-door neighbors when the crackling noise woke up a family member, who saw flames spreading along a fence that appeared to be minutes away from starting their home on fire. The homeowners were home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but appears to be accidental. Damages were estimated at about $250,000. Fire departments from Clarendon Hills, Oak Brook, Pleasantview and Western Springs responded to assist Hinsdale. (Jim Slonoff photos)
