Hinsdale man reports killing ex-wife before taking his own life

A 49-year-old Hinsdale man confessed to murdering his former wife in Geneva before taking his own life on June 14.

Police responded to the home of Amanda R. Dockery, 48, in the 1000 block of Pebble Beach Court at 5:22 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from her ex-husband, Chad L. Dockery, who said he had killed her, according to a news alert posted by the city of Geneva on its webpage. He told police he was armed with a pistol.

When police arrived, he was observed inside a vehicle at the end of the driveway. As the officer approached, a gun was fired and Chad Dockery was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the alert. A 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene.

Police entered the home and found Amanda Dockery suffering from two apparent gunshot wounds. Both were taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, where she was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m. and he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m., according to the alert. No other people were inside the home.

Geneva police and members of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force are continuing to investigate the incident. Autopsy reports will take about 12 weeks to complete, according to Daniela Gicla, compliance and special projects coordinator at the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
