Grant Davis

Senior

Hinsdale

When did you first start playing baseball?

When I was about 3, 4 years old. I was in T-ball at Robbins Park.

What do you enjoy most about the sport?

I enjoy the relationships I make with my teammates. I just love the feeling of playing the sport in general. I'm always excited to be out on the field.

What position do you play?

First base. I love fielding ground balls, so I like being in the infield. I also am very good at scooping the ball when bad throws are made. I also have good height (6' 2"), which is needed at that position. I've been playing first based my entire life. I'm a leftie, so I can't play any other position on the infield.

What has been special about your senior year?

The team that I'm playing with is very good. We're capable of beating any team in the state. We've beaten really good teams in the past and kept close scores with top 10 teams. We've had a lot of really good wins this year. We've improved each game and we've gotten better from the start of the season to now.

What's the best advice you've gotten from a coach?

Don't drop your hands because when my coach said that to me, I proceeded to take his instructions and I hit two home runs in a row.

What is your goal for the season?

Right now my main focus is on the playoffs and keeping my senior year alive as long as possible.

What are your plans for next year?

I'm going to Miami of Ohio. I'm studying management for business. I'm currently going to play for their club team. Walking on is definitely an option of mine, and I think it could be possible the way I'm playing this season.

Why does coach Jason Ziemer like having Davis on the team?

Grant Davis is a hard-nosed kid who plays the game at a very high speed. He really does everything well. He's hitting .400, he gets out of the box well, runs the bases hard, is aggressive and plays great defense. He plays with a sense of urgency, and does everything with a purpose. Those players are the most enjoyable to coach and also enjoyable to watch compete on an everyday basis.
