Mary Anne Shaver, née Bower, 82, formerly of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, passed away peacefully Feb. 14, 2023.
Born in 1941, she grew up in Riverside and attended Ferry Hall in Lake Forest. She then attended Michigan State University and the University of Illinois, where she was a proud Kappa Kappa Gamma.
Mary raised her family in Clarendon Hills, where she was very involved in her community, serving as chapter president of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago and as a Girl Scout Leader.
She also had a successful career in the modeling, fashion and menswear industries well into her 70s, including a one-of-a-kind wardrobe consulting business.
A talented artist, Mary received a certificate of drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She was involved with the Hinsdale Center for the Arts, and exhibited her work at Evanston's Noyes Art Center, Mayslake in Oak Brook, the La Grange Art League and Elmhurst Art Museum.
Mary loved her family more than anything.
She is survived by her two children, James (Carla) Shaver and Suzanne Penn; her grandchildren, Eve and Claire Shaver, Emily Penn and Wilson (Perry) Penn; her sister, Barbara Schuessler, née Bower; many nephews; and a niece.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William and Catherine Bower; and her siblings, Joan (Bill) Skedd and William "Skip" (Bunny) Bower.
A private celebration of life will be held at The Morton Arboretum.
