Edmund R. Wallens, 87, of Willowbrook died Jan. 21, 2023.

Edmund graduated from Tri-State College as a civil engineer in 1959. He was a member of Sigma Phi Delta international engineering fraternity.

He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 37 years and was named district bureau chief in 1992. He was also a member of the Illinois Association of Highway Engineers and the American Society of Professional Engineers.

He was outgoing, loved to read and was a wealth of knowledge. He was steadfast in his unconditional love and support of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary L. Wallens, nee Foster; his children, Michael Wallens, Laura (John) Wallens-Morris, Nancy Williams and Joy (Kyle) Ebersole; and his grandchildren, Michael Wallens Jr., Miette Morris, Alexis Williams and Nathan and Matthew Ebersole.

A private funeral Mass was held Jan. 26 at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills.

Internment was at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to St Jude Childrens' Research Hospital or the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation.

Sullivan Funeral Home Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
