Carol Faye Prather

Carol Faye Prather, neé Leatzow, a former 64-year resident of Hinsdale, died in her sleep Sept. 20, 2022, in the hospice facility at Oak Trace Health Center in Downers Grove.

Carol was born in 1936 in Chicago and grew up in Morgan Park. Her father was a professional harpist, and her mother was the owner of a retail greeting card shop. She attended Loring High School for Girls in Morgan Park, where she graduated in 1954. In 1956 she married Richard D. Prather and the couple moved to Hinsdale, where they raised their two children, Scott and Laurie.

Carol loved to sing and was blessed with a sense of everything that was gracious. Their house in Hinsdale reflected her artistic sensibilities, from the floors to the windows, to the figurines and other objects she displayed. She regularly attended class reunions for the class of '54 of Loring High School for Girls and was active at the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, contributing her energy and talent to their yearly sale.

She is survived by her son, Scott (Anne) Prather; and her daughter, Laurie Prather.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Hinsdale United Methodist Church, 945 S. Garfield St., Hinsdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to Angels Grace Hospice at https://www.angelsgracehospice.com/.

Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
