Julius S. Pohlenz

Julius S. Pohlenz, 54, of Hinsdale, a patent and corporate attorney, benevolent friend and father to four sons died May 14, 2022, from sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma.

Julius was born in Germany and raised in Switzerland. He came to the United States with his family when his father, a veterinary professor, took a position with Iowa State University. Julius made the brave decision at 18 years old to remain in the U.S. when his family returned to Hanover, Germany. He finished high school in his non-native language as valedictorian, continued to University of Iowa with a degree in civil engineering, and Tulane Law School for his juris doctor.

Julius was kind to his core with a reserved intelligence and adventurous spirit. He had encyclopedic knowledge of geography, planes, and sports. Julius was an enthusiastic father to and is survived by his four sons. He cherished time on the floor playing trains or building Legos reading to them before bed; and on any field or court where his sons were playing. He helped coach, collectively, more than 14 seasons of soccer and basketball for teams on which his sons played.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his four sons, Maximilian, Oliver, Jupiter and Wolf; his sister Fritzi (Stephan); his mother- and father-in-law, Barbara and Vincent; his brothers-in-law, Tony and Alex; his sisters-in-law, Olivia and Susan; and five nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joachim and Waltraud.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Notre Dame Church, 64 Norfolk Ave., Clarendon Hills.

In lieu of visitation, a celebration of life will take place from 6 to 9 that night at Gibson’s Steakhouse, 2105 Spring Road, Oak Brook.
