9U bounces back with a win
The 9U Falcons took the field against the Carol Stream Panthers determined to get back on track and back to their winning ways. And they did just that, coasting to a 12-0 victory in the last regular season game.
The defense set the tone early with a quick four and out. The Falcons took over and marched down the field. The drive was capped off by a thrilling 20-yard touchdown run by Gavin Schuler. Another defensive stop gave the Falcons a short field. Michael Kipnis took a hand off from quarterback Nick Carbonara after a nifty fake and scooted around end untouched for a 25-yard touchdown run and a 12-0 halftime lead. The offense was efficient all day with Seabass Christensen, Bennett Zeikus, Josh Castro, Grady Wood and Nate Thangamani keeping the Panthers out of the backfield.
The defense completed their shutout with fumble recoveries by Jack Hillegass and Ryan Pieczkowski with a strip by Luke Lieberenz. Mas Burdi, Spender Marnell, Sullivan Camp, George Beatty, Kellen Brown, Ben Murphy and Keegan McCoskey all had big hits, earning high praise from Coach Camp.
It was a complete team win and a great way to end the regular season at 6-3.
The Falcons now get ready for the playoffs, as they try to make their way to the Super Bowl.
JV SILVER SHUTS OUT GLEN ELLYN
The Falcons JV Silver team wrapped up the regular season with a 29-0 win Sunday at home vs Glen Ellyn.
Even though the game was contested in a cold, driving rain, the Hinsdale offense was dominant and scored on each of its four possessions. Star quarterback Owen Sunderson led the high-powered offence once again with three rushing touchdowns and finishing with 133 yards on the ground. John Breton, Tom Golon and Alex Przyzycki chipped in solid performances for the Falcon rushing attack. Breton had a highlight reel worthy stiff arm and hurdle of a Glen Ellyn defender in the first half. Golon ran well all day, with two successful carries on PATs, and Przyzycki would score the third touchdown from 8 yards out. The Falcon ball carriers can thank their offensive linemen — Harish Mekla, Matthew Tomfohrde, Michael Sharples, Luke Zajicek and tight end Henry Kohn — who opened up big holes for them to run through all day.
The Hinsdale Defense bounced back from giving up 27 points the previous week to pitch their second shutout of the season. Glen Ellyn struggled to move the ball throughout the game and only managed a few first downs. Defensive tackle Jimmy Satchwell had his strongest performance of the season with several tackles for losses. He got help from fellow defensive linemen Jonathon Fausto and James Frankel, who also played well. The hard-hitting contingent Graham Marnell, Jack Enright, Drew Wyent and Michael Dunford left their mark on Glen Ellyn ball carriers all game long.
The 7-1 JV Silver team will play its first round playoff game this Sunday at Dickinson Field.
JV GOLD TROUNCES COWBOYS
The Falcons JV Gold put together a near perfect first half versus the Arlington Heights Cowboys on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Hinsdale Central’s Dickinson Field.
Touchdown runs by Marko Wallace, Orestas Bockus and 2 touchdown runs by Beau Knapp made the score 28-0 at the half.
Great defensive plays made by James Mannor, Alex Tafoya, Oliver Clary, Michael Panzica and Charlie Miller kept the shutout going throughout the second half.
Final score 28 to nothing.
The 7-2 Falcons will have revenge on their mind as they meet the Wheaton Rams at home this weekend in round one of the playoffs.
Senior Gold EARNS NO. 2 SEED
The Hinsdale Senior Falcons concluded their fine season with a 16-6 victory over The Downers Grove Panthers. The game featured a feisty fall rain storm and brisk temperatures.
“We told the boys before the game whoever was able to minimize the weather distractions, the tougher mental, physical team will win! Turns out it was us!” super fan Fred Boshardt, wearing a snowsuit, commented.
Known as the Nostradamus of Hinsdale, Super Fred was right. The Falcons dominated the game up front and on defense. The DG offense was held to 1 first down and 0 points.
“Their only score came on a defensive TD. I blame Coach Lez, issues on that play call, but a nice guy,” an anonymous fan named Mark Torsberg joked.
Riley Contreras scored two touchdowns, had 11 tackles and 1 interception to lead the Falcons’ charge. The MVP of the game was Micah Drescher, the Falcons’ super kicker. He had two huge PATs worth 2 points each and kept the Panthers pinned with a 45-yard punt average and booming kickoffs.
The coaches wanted to mention some main contributors: Keith Bielarz, Owen Joyce, Tommy Riordan, Ethan Tamas and Wes Novatney, all of whom had key plays.
The Falcons will play either Bartlett or Oswego in the first round this Sunday at Hinsdale Central.
“Hopefully their coaches don’t think they will beat us by 40 like the last one. We like being the underdogs! Like the Golden Mouse in a basketball camp,” coach Joe Corcoran mentioned.
The Falcons are 8-1 and look to be more than underdogs as they begin the quest for the BGYFL Super Bowl.
