Ly Hart Hotchkin

Ly Hart Hotchkin, 95, a community activist for more than 50 years, died peacefully Aug. 23, 2020.

Ly attended Chicago Public Schools and the University of Chicago, Class of 1947. She was employed as executive director of The Community House in Hinsdale for 37 years. She was elected to two terms to the Community Consolidated Elementary District 181 Board and the Hinsdale High School District 86 Board. The Hinsdale Central High School Foundation inducted her into its Hall of Fame in 1999.

Ly served on the following boards: United Way of Hinsdale, United Way of Suburban Chicago, Committee of 100, Graue Mill, Wellness House, Chicago Support Center, Friends of Conservation Women’s Benefit Board, Hinsdale Center for the Arts, Hinsdale Community House Life Trustee, Ray Graham, Chicago Center for New Horizons, Five Seasons Country Club, Hanson Center Advisory Board, Executive Service Corps Consultant, United Way Ambassador, Hinsdale Central High School Foundation and the Union Church Endowment Board.

Ly served for 10 years as a volunteer for the Red Cross, volunteered a thousand hours at Hinsdale Hospital and volunteered five years for the University of Chicago Special Programs. She has been a member of the King Bruwaert “Adorables” and appeared in 11 productions of the Hinsdale Community House Players Revue.

She is survived by her son, Randy (Christine); her grandson, Kurt; and her three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ethan and Tristan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Childress; and her grandson, Gunnar (Erin) Hotchkin, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010.

A visitation is set for 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St., Hinsdale. The funeral home will follow the state of Illinois State Phase Four Reopening Guidelines, with a maximum of 50 people gathering in the building.

Interment is private.

A gathering of friends to celebrate Ly’s life will be held at a future time to be announced.
