To cap off Catholic Schools Week, students and staff at St. Isaac Jogues School held a Blue Ribbon celebration assembly Friday afternoon. The children were greeted with a tunnel of cheerleaders as they filed into the gym. DJ Maximus turned the mic over to Kate Mattes, who sang her heart out to - of course - a Taylor Swift song, and the entire school seemed to know the lyrics. Monroe School held an assembly Friday to honor veterans. The program featured songs, photos and an introduction of members of Hinsdale's American Legion Post 250. Post members Jay Sedivy and Joe Craig salute during the National Anthem. Anna Eberfeld, Isabella Favia and Eloise Goar sing along during the anthem as well. Reno Burdi of Burdi Clothing hosted a very special car show Sunday morning in downtown Hinsdale called "Functional Art." More than 200 cars were on display in the Washington commuter lot. From rare to racing, the cars represented some of the most unique and expensive around the village. The streets were alive with splashes of color last month as the 17th annual Walk the Walk for Mental Health wound through the village. The Community House event supports equitable mental health services in the community with counseling services and programming. The 25th annual Julie K. Heidecke tribute soccer clinic was held in March at Hinsdale Central. Hosted by Central's girls soccer players and staff the clinic was free to area children. Julie Heidecke graduated from Hinsdale Central in 1997. She was the captain of the soccer team and was an All-Conference selection her senior year. She went on to Illinois State University to continue her soccer career. Unfortunately, Julie died in 1998 at the age of 19 in a car accident....
Members of the Hinsdale Middle School Disney Band, HMS Chamber Strings and HMS Spartan Chorale have been practicing since the fall to prepare for their upcoming performances at Disney Springs and Universal Studios Orlando Florida in February. Thousands flocked to the Christmas Walk Friday night. Once Santa arrived, Village President Tom Cauley began the countdown to turn on the lights on the Christmas tree in front of the Memorial Building. The sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade Hinsdale Middle School bands presented a fall concert Nov. 17. Each individual band performed several selections. Sixth-graders Timothy Warren and Ella Massery play the trumpet. Seventh-grader Olivia Giannini is on the tuba. After the Madison School Dash & Bash 3K race, families enjoyed almost a day's worth of activities. With a Friday night last-second victory at the football game and a cool, rain-free Saturday morning parade, Hinsdale Central celebrated homecoming weekend in style. Jake Trainer, Emerson Eck and Evan Phillips, Hinsdale Central varsity basketball players, held a one-day basketball/swim camp in July to help first- through eighth-graders sharpen their playing skills. Mother Nature provided one more test to prove their "grit" as members of the Hinsdale Central Class of 2022 had to have their graduation ceremony indoors because of threatening weather last Thursday night. And while it was warm in the gym, it didn't stop the pomp and circumstance as the 667 members of the class received their diplomas. Many parents were able to spot their graduates as they entered.
