Hinsdale honors fallen during Memorial Day procession, ceremony

Members of Hinsdale's American Legion Post 250 led the annual Memorial Day procession up Washington Street to the Memorial Building on Monday. Along the route hundreds cheered the vets, scouts and the Hinsdale Central marching band. Blake Burrows had a good spot in the shade along Washington to view the procession. On the grounds of the Memorial Building, Cub Scout Braxton Cirone observes the ceremony; later Eagle Scout Shreemann Patel from Troop 10 salutes during the call to colors. As the names of the honored dead were read, legion member Kevin Hall and post Cmdr. Jack Orbell placed a wreath at the Winged Victory statue inside the building. Gold star mom Chris Hotchkin gets some support from Preston Bokos as her son Army Specialist Gunnar Hotchkin's name was read. Hotchkin, who died during the Afghan War, was the 63rd Hinsdalean among the fallen, whose names are engraved on a plaque near the statue. (Jim Slonoff photos)
