Letter - Greenspon creates opportunities for all students

I wholeheartedly support Catherine “Cat” Greenspon for D86 BOE. Although I just met Cat during COVID, it feels like we’re lifelong friends.

Cat’s life exemplifies a passion for education. In her 20s, Cat created Computer Labs in Cabrini Green, not just for children, but to provide parents access to the internet to apply for jobs. Her Infinite Green Project provided Chicago area STEM students opportunities to partner with scientists at Argonne National Labs and explore renewable energy sources as global citizens.

Actively engaged at both Central and South and districtwide, Cat is a leader, a planner, a do-er — someone committed to maximizing opportunities for all students. She constantly celebrates our community, students and teachers. As an active parent and fixture at board meetings and committee meetings, Cat has a solid understanding of D86 strengths and weaknesses. Cat asks critical questions, gathers relevant data and works to understand differing points of view, then articulately shares her viewpoint with administrators and the board.

Comfortable at the board table, Cat is serving her third 4-year term on the Museum of Science & Industry Board with a focus on education through hands-on experiences and continuing education for teachers. With a heart for outreach, Cat has a real knack for bringing people together, listening, getting people invested and building consensus. Rarely do you find someone who gives so much of themselves to improve the lives of others. Cat’s integrity and compassion are exactly what D86 needs to empower all students to be their best selves. — Kim Nibeck Notaro, Hinsdale
