Hinsdale Caucus invites residents to get involved

Please attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Hinsdale Public Library. We are seeking your input on the future of the Hinsdale Village Caucus.

The caucus is a nonpartisan group of volunteers whose primary role is to identify, recruit and promote qualified candidates for the District 181 School Board, the Hinsdale Library Board and the Hinsdale Village Board of Trustees. The caucus was founded in 1934 and has been an integral part of the election process in the village for nearly 90 years.

The caucus benefits the community not only from nonpartisan candidate vetting, but the process also helps foster future board members who decide to run after observing the election process as part of the caucus nominating committees.

The success of the caucus depends on community involvement and the willingness of residents to volunteer their time. Unfortunately, the caucus was not able support candidates in the last two election cycles due to COVID-19 and declining community interest. Without community support, the caucus will unfortunately not survive as an organization in the future.

The terms for the current caucus leadership have expired. We are reaching out to the community to find residents who are interested in both leadership and support roles on the caucus for the next election cycle. This is a great opportunity to volunteer for the community, particularly if you have limited time. If you are interested, please attend the meeting and/or email us at [email protected].

We hope the community will support this important and historic organization. — John Donaldson, Nadine Gilbert and Andrew McBride, caucus officers
