HJWC AWARDS 24 GRANTS

Hinsdale Junior Woman’s Club raised more than $364,000 during the 2021-2022 club year. The record breaking total was distributed to 24 nonprofits through HJWC’s philanthropic giving process. The club’s 250 members also participated in 18 service projects to further support local organizations.

The club funds tangible items for deserving Chicagoland nonprofit organizations. During the 2021-2022 grant application period, more than 50 organizations submitted more than $1.2 million in grant requests.

“HJWC has worked tirelessly over the last year to raise money to fund our nonprofit grants,” said Michelle Riley, club president. “We have seen that the needs of nonprofits in our community continue to be large as they navigate new ways of serving their clients, and are thrilled that we’ve been able to fund 24 diverse grants.”

Organizations that received grants are Sharing Connections Inc., WINGS Program Inc., DuPage Pads, Helping Hand, Refugee One, Harmony Hope and Healing, People’s Music, Amita, Giant Steps, Child’s Voice, GiGi’s Playhouse, Aspire, Un Nuevo Despertar — A New Awakening, Communities In Schools of Chicago, Mercy Home, A Silver Lining, IMD Guest House, New Moms, By The Hand, Share Our Spare, Bear Necessities, Home to Home, Northeast DuPage Family and Youth Service and Hope’s Front Door.

Nonprofit organizations have the opportunity to apply for grants up to $50,000 in value each September. Organizations must provide three bids, participate in a site check and make a presentation to HJWC’s membership. Once the vetting process is complete, HJWC members vote on where to direct the funds that are raised through the benefit and other fundraising activities.

The main fundraising source for grants was the “GIVEchella” benefit held April 9 at Theater on the Lake in Chicago.
