JV SILVER WINNING STREAK ENDS

The Falcon JV Silver squad’s eight-game winning streak came to an end Sunday at Berens Park in Elmhurst. Hoping to avenge their week one — and only — loss, the Falcons came up just short, losing a tightly contested battle 7-6 to the Elmhurst Eagles.

The kids from Hinsdale held off the speedy Elmhurst offense on the opening drive. The Falcons would take over on downs in their own territory and scored a few plays later on a long third down touchdown run by quarterback Owen Sunderson. A penalty would spoil the PAT try, but the Falcons had the early lead, 6-0. Hinsdale would play tough defense, thwarting the Eagle attack throughout the first half and holding the team scoreless. The Falcons’ second possession would have a 60-yard Sunderson touchdown called back for a penalty. Later in the same drive, a third down pass from Sunderson to sure-handed tight end Henry Kohn would get called back for a penalty as well.

The second half was a war of a football game, with big hits levied by both sides. Elmhurst would use their speed advantage on the outside to run sweep after sweep with success in the second half. They scored on a long run and punched in the PAT to take the lead. In the end, the Falcons weren’t able to match the speed of the Elmhurst squad and gave up a few big plays that made the difference.

Reflecting on the season in a post-game speech, Coach Breton was heard praising a group of 24 boys, 18 of whom hadn’t played tackle football before. He would say that it was a privilege to coach them and that he was both shocked and proud by how far they had come.

The 8-2 JV Silver Falcons are John Breton, Michael Dunford, Jack Enright, Jonathon Fausto, James Frankel, Liam Gilmore, Thomas Golon, Henry Kohn, Gordie Linn, Graham Marnell, Luke McLaughlin, Harish Mekla, Andrew Nield, Sam Pesoli, Alex Przyzycki, Jimmy Satchwell, Michael Sharples, Isaiah Shin, Owen Sunderson, Matthew Tomfohrde, Drew Wyent, Jack Wyent, Luke Zajicek and Evan Zydek.

SENIOR GOLD ENDS SEASON WITH CLASS

For the Falcons Senior Gold team to beat Palatine for a second time, they needed everything to go right. Unfortunately it did not. The Falcons ended their year at an impressive 9-2 clip. More importantly, this eighth-grade group has built a foundation adding to an already elite program at Hinsdale Central.

“It’s been fun! Lots of life lessons have been given to these young men — and me! I have one more year of head coaching, but this group was special” Coach Matt Riordan said from Wild Ginger while eating hibachi.

Palatine’s “Golden Mouse,” Kelly Luthringshausen, a portal from Tri City to Palatine, scored all four touchdowns. His girlfriend, only known as “My Michelle,” was impressed.

Riley Contreras ran one for Hinsdale of 80 yards and Patrick Connors caught one from Contreras. Coach Joe Corcoran, sobbing after the, game mentioned it was the last game for a few coaches.

“Steve Contreras, Kevin Connors, Jeff Collier, Ned Hoyt and Coach Lez are just a nice bunch, they will be missed but Falcons thank them for their hard work! God Bless them!”

As much as this writer wanted to put more humor in his final summary of the season, he would rather thank all the fantastic people in this wonderful program for eight years of incredible memories.

Go Falcons! And now, Go Devils!
