9U Falcons STILL UNDEFEATED

The Falcons traveled up north to face the Elk Grove Village Eagles for a week five match up The Falcons started uncharacteristically sloppy and were forced to punt for the first time this year by the Eagles.

After the punt, the Falcons’ defense decided to get the train back on track. A Luke Lieberenz tackle liberated the ball. Ben Murphy quickly pounced on the loose pigskin, giving the Falcons a fumble recovery. After a nice drive, Michael Kipnis opened the scoring with a short touchdown run. Blocks by Nate Thangamani, Bennett Zeikus and Josh Castro were key.

The ensuing possession by the Eagles resulted in another fumble recovery for the Falcons. George Beatty delivered the blow and Nick Carbonaro corralled the ball. Shortly after, Grady Wood, Seabass Christensen and Ryan Pieczkowski paved the way for a Spencer Marnell touchdown scamper.

Salvatore Calandriello decided it was his turn to get in on the action. Salvi caved in the Eagle’s O line and ended up with yet another fumble recovery. The Falcons closed out the half with a late touchdown by Marnell. Sullivan Camp added the PAT to give the Falcons a 19-0 lead.

A Marnell touchdown run closed out the 25-0 win. The defense was stingy all game, with Gavin Schuler, Kellen Brown, Joey Hillegass, Keegan McCoskey and Jack Corry all making key contributions.

It wasn’t the 5-0 Falcons best game, Coach Camp quipped.

“We’re not too worried about results,” he said. “We just want to keep working and getting better.”

JV SILVER HANDS LT FIRST LOSS

LT brought an undefeated record to Dickinson Field on Sunday and left with their first loss of the season.

After a great week of practice, the Falcon JV Silver team showed up ready to play and dominated both sides of the ball, coming away with a hard fought 18-8 victory.

Quarterback Owen Sunderson led a balanced attack that moved the ball effectively throughout the game. Tom Golon and Alex Przyzycki led the ground game with a number of big gains off tackle. Sunderson led off the scoring with a six-yard run off the right side to start the second quarter. He would add two more scores in the second half with 25-yard and 42-yard touchdown passes, both to wide receiver Jack Wyent. The Falcon offensive line was led by Michael Sharples and Harrish Mekla, who were tough in the trenches from start to finish.

The Hinsdale defense was stellar all day. The high-scoring LT offense was kept at bay by the constant pressure of nose guard Matthew Tomfohrde and defensive tackles Luke Zajicek and Jimmy Satchwell. Physical play from linebackers John Breton and Graham Marnell made life tough for LT running backs. Ballhawk Andrew Nield snatched his second interception of the season and Jack Enright closed the game with an interception for himself on the last play of the game.

The now 4-1 JV Silver team has a bye this weekend and plays next Sunday, Oct. 10, on the road at Naperville White.

VARSITY SILVER GROWS IN LOSS

You always hear that games are won and lost based on a couple plays. That was indeed the case for the Falcons Varsity Silver team’s match up against an undefeated Patine football squad.

Palatine struck early and executed a beautiful Jet Sweep around left end for a 60-yard touchdown that completely fooled the Falcon defense and the cameraman. After that, the Falcons defense stood up to a powerful Palatine offense and stymied them for the majority of the contest. The defense was led by tackling machine Alec Allegra and a cohesive defensive line led by Anthony Mayan, Liam Joyce and Corbin Camp. Ben Tiritilli and Gavin Klobach did an excellent job breaking up multiple passes.

The offense struggled in mustering much of an attack as Palatine blitzed like the ’85 Bears all afternoon.

This team showed a lot of grit in a tough loss to a strong team.

The team expects a strong rebound this weekend as rival Lyons Township comes to Dickinson Field at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Senior Gold Beats Wheaton

The Falcons Senior gold improved to 5-0 on the season with a dominant victory over the Wheaton Rams. The final score was Hinsdale 40, Wheaton 12.

Hinsdale got the scoring going early and often thanks to blocking from the big men, Grant Cook, Gene Riordan, Jeff Collier, Logan Schultz and Charlie Hoyt. Riley Contreras had two long touchdown runs, three all day. His backfield mate, Patrick Connors, added the other two. Kieth Bielarz had an interception on defense.

Coach Matt Riordan on his way to Paw Paw for some mid-fall tubing called in and mentioned that the next four weeks will be a brutal stretch.

“Tri Cities is 5-0, Oak Park 4-1, Naperville 5-0 and DG is 5-0 — these will be tough weeks ahead, hopefully we are ready for the challenge!”

Super Fan Fred Boshardt, getting out for the second week in a row, mentioned it was a “Size win!”
