WELLNESS HOUSE RECEIVES GRANT

Wellness House of Hinsdale received a $2,500 grant from the DuPage Foundation.

The foundation last month awarded a record $702,860 in grants to 37 area nonprofit agencies through its Community Needs Grant Program.

TEEN VOLUNTEER WINS SCHOLARSHIP

Katherine Wilson of Hinsdale Central High School is one of eight students to receive a $2,000 Teen Volunteer Health Profession Scholarship from the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Wilson plans to become a surgeon.

Funds for this year’s scholarship were raised through the foundation’s annual Reindeer Route House Walk. All recipients are volunteers at Elmhurst Hospital and plan to pursue careers in health-related fields.

STUDENTS COMPETE AT STATE event

Hinsdale Central junior Armaan Panjwani and seniors Josh Keating and Chiara Gregor excelled in their individual events at the state competition for the Illinois Design Educators Association. Keating took third place in the 3D CAD Modeling event, while Panjwani and Gregor tied for third in the Architectural 2D CAD event.

Teachers Matthew Gawlik and Jonathan Schmidt helped the students prepare for their events.

LANGUAGE STUDENTS ARE STARS

The world language teachers from Hinsdale Central select a Star Student two times per semester. These are students who demonstrate a strong interest in a world or classical language, make positive contributions to the classroom environment, exhibit a passion for learning a second language and inspire their peers.

Wellness House PRESENTS AWARDS

Wellness House presented its Lifetime Trustee award to Sarah and Eddie Opler and the Heart of the House award to Pat Janik at the annual Wellness House Lifetime Trustee Dinner at Hyatt Lodge.

This annual event brings together donors, board members and staff to celebrate the award recipients and all the volunteers and supporters who make free cancer support a reality each and every day.

Speakers included Lauren Staniar Haarlow, board chair; Lisa Kolavennu, executive director; Tracy Lester, program director; and Dave Victorson, Ph.D., licensed clinical psychologist and professor of medical social sciences at Northwestern Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine, who shared the importance of mindfulness and connection.
