Hinsdale police distributed the following reports May 26.

Vehicle stolen

A 2017 Mercedes Benz E300 was stolen from a driveway in the 900 block of South Madison Street between 10:30 p.m. May 24 and 2:24 a.m. May 25. The keys are believed to have been left inside the vehicle.

Apartment burglarized

A known suspect entered an apartment between 10:50 a.m. and 2:23 p.m. May 23 in the 5500 block of South Madison Street and stole a portable safe containing $9,000. There were no signs of forced entry, and an unlocked bedroom window had been opened. The victim told police the suspect is a former acquaintance.

Little library vandalized

A book box for people to borrow or donate books was damaged between midnight and 8:26 a.m. May 25 in a front yard in the 700 block of South Vine Street.

Forgery reported

A $495 check issued by a resident of the 10 block South Garfield Avenue $495 was intercepted and the payee information altered between Dec. 27, 2019, and Jan. 1. The incident was reported May 18.

Identity theft incident

The identity of a resident of the 100 block of East Fifth Street was used to open a utility account in Houston, Texas, sometime before 1:11 p.m. May 20. The victim received a bill for $408.43.
