Student athlete profile

Name: Jack Salerno

Year: senior

Hometown: Hinsdale

When did you start playing lacrosse?

I started in third grade with the Western Springs lacrosse program. My older brother played it, and I always loved the physicality of it without having to tackle anybody.

What was it like having last season canceled?

It was tough because we knew that we had a great team and a great senior class, and they weren't able to have a final season.

What do you love about the sport?

I've grown to love the energy that comes from lacrosse players. Every lacrosse player has a couple of screws loose in their head, so I love just being around other players.

What's the toughest part?

This season just being mentally ready to go all the time. With as many as three games a week, making sure that your mind and body are ready to play your hardest.

How would your teammates describe you?

Probably fun and funny. I just like to get out there and have some fun but get serious when I need to be.

Do you have any pre-game routines?

Just listening to a lot of rock music and getting my mindset right with my teammates.

How do you exert leadership as a co-captain?

Definitely trying to make sure that the team knows all the practice times and what we're doing that day and that everyone feel like they're a part of the team.

What are your season goals?

To make it to state if we can do it. Personally to become a better team member and grow into my leadership role.

Where might we find you 10 years from now?

Probably sitting lakeside somewhere with a fishing rod in my hand and friends by my side.

Why does coach Dave Demasi like having Salerno on the squad?

Jack is a senior attackman and captain who leads by example. He is extremely coachable and is always looking to become a better player and teammate. With his size and strength, Jack can take any player one-on-one and, in many cases, two- or three-on-one. Jack is the type of player who will do anything in his power to make the team better, and we are lucky to have him as a leader for this team. Jack will be missed next year, as a player, captain and person.
