Nancy Ellen Tonkin, née Grim, 90, a longtime Hinsdale resident, passed away peacefully Dec. 18, 2020, surrounded by family.

She was born in 1930 to Caroline Goddard Saunders and Robert F. Grim.

Born and raised in Riverside, she attended the University of Oregon and moved back to Chicago, where she met and married the love of her life, Bill, in 1959. They settled in Hinsdale in 1964 to raise their family. Nancy loved reading, playing bridge, watching soap operas, WTTW and her beloved Cubs. She was a longstanding member of Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale, actively involved in Altar Guild and the Grace Episcopal Churchwomen.

Nancy leaves a legacy of love and friendship, and her family takes comfort knowing she is back together with Bill. Her beautiful smile and love for her family will be greatly missed, and her memory will live on through all the lives she touched. A special thank-you to her caregivers Holly and Vernice for their thoughtfulness throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Tonkin in 1991.

She is survived by her daughters, Caroline (Paul) Zalatoris of Clarendon Hills and Amy (Paul) Cash of Hinsdale; her grandchildren, Ellen Zalatoris (fiancé Jason Reifeis), Anne Zalatoris, Elizabeth Cash and Courtney Cash; her sister, Barbara (the late Ray) Lokting; and many nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Interment will be at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 120 E. First St., Hinsdale, IL 60521 or online at https://www.gracehinsdale.org.
