Stewart Mohr Mather

Stewart Mohr Mather of Hinsdale passed away Nov. 15, 2020, after a valiant battle with cholangiocarcinoma.

He was born in 1978 in Hinsdale.

Stewart’s strong faith, family, and sense of humor anchored him through this turbulent storm and ultimately gave him peace as he was called into heaven. Anyone who knew Stewart knew him to have a magnetic personality — drawing people in with his disarming smile, sharp wit and appetite for adventure. He channeled his determined spirit into building his business, traveling the world and starting a beautiful family.

Stewart’s personal and professional accomplishments far out measured his time here on earth, which was cut short at the young age of 42.

Stewart’s confidence in his close relationship with the Lord sustained him until the very end, allowing him to look fearlessly in the face of death and make the most of every moment. His strength and courage consistently inspired others who were suffering to reach deeper for hope and push harder for healing. Because of Stewart’s steadfast determination and willingness to receive every treatment option available for his rare cancer, the cholangiocarcinoma medical community is undoubtedly enriched in their knowledge of fighting this relentless disease.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and staff who served as beacons of hope in the darkness of his diagnosis, especially Dr. Milind Javle and the M.D. Anderson GI Clinic, Dr. Talia Baker and the University of Chicago Medicine surgical team, and Dr. Mary Mulcahy and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital nurses.

Stewart leaves behind his wife, Colleen Gearty Mather; his children, Emma, Georgia, Morris and Stewart Jr .; his sisters, Sayle (David) Little and Lauren (Dan) Otahal; his brother and best friend, Gardner (Jessica) Mather; his parents, Melissa Mohr Mather and David Anderson Mather; and his beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

A small, private memorial service was held at Hinsdale Covenant Church shortly after Stewart passed, with plans for a larger celebration of life at a later date.

Memorials may be made to The Mather Family CCA Research Fund in support of cholangiocarcinoma research and Dr. Javle at MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486 or online at https://www.mdanderson.org/gifts.

Brian Powell Funeral Directors of Hinsdale handled the arrangements.
