Fall Color 5K Run and Walk

Run or walk a socially distant course on the arboretum’s spacious, vehicle-free East Side roads. Runners will start in groups of 25 every 15 minutes. Race packets will be mailed directly to participants and masks will be required in the core race area and every building. A virtual 5K is available as well. Time: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost: $42, including a T-shirt and arboretum admission. RR, MD

Families with children 4 and older can enjoy a fall color hike around Meadow Lake. Learn how plants transform during the fall and take home a colorful memento of a special time among the trees. Virtual Glass Pumpkin Patch

The Morton Arboretum’s 10th annual Glass Pumpkin Patch has been adapted to an online format due to large gathering restrictions in Illinois. A stunning array of handblown glass pumpkins will be available for purchase online, with in-person pick up at the Thornhill Education Center parking lot. A link to the sale will be available on the website on Oct. 14.
