Village residents pitch in to open roads across north side of village

When a powerful "derecho" with winds exceeding 50 mph whipped through Hinsdale Monday afternoon, dozens of residents on the north side of town took to the streets immediately to clear fallen limbs. Luke and Juliana Norman work to open a path near Burns Field. Hinsdale firefighters answered more than 30 calls for activated alarms, blocked roads and downed power lines throughout town. Fortunately no injuries were reported. A huge pine tree stretched across Phillipa Street in northeast Hinsdale. Kevin and John Duffy took on the large limbs blocking another street. Isaac Weber along with his parents, Conor and Lois, took a walk to check out village crews using a Bobcat to clear North Washington Street. (Jim Slonoff photos)
