Geoffrey H. Halliday

Geoffrey H. Halliday, 64, of Hinsdale died Feb. 24, 2020.

A graduate of the University of Missouri (bachelor's in economics) and Loyola University Chicago (master's in business administration), Geoff proudly dedicated himself to a 42-year career in sales - a career that began at the iconic Marshall Field's flagship store on State Street, where he met his wife, Barbara.

Geoff enjoyed a number of hobbies, including photography, genealogy, quail hunting with his best friends, brewing beer with his son, and listening to his record collection with his daughter. He was a devoted brother in the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, a member of the Mayflower Society and a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs. Geoff likened his five-year battle with cancer to a game of chess: "You make a move, then the cancer makes a move. You know you'll never win, but you just try to keep playing for as long as you can," he said.

Friends and family will miss Geoff's candor, humor, and dedication to the people and organizations he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Halliday, née Gilbert; his children, Anne and Andrew (Elizabeth) Halliday; and many friends.

Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Sullivan Funeral Home, 60 S. Grant St., Hinsdale.

Interment will be private at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made online to the Phi Delta Theta Foundation scholarships at https://www.phideltatheta.org/foundation or the Mayflower Society of Illinois scholarship at https://www.themayflowersociety.org/donate.
