Column prompts writer to share thoughts on halftime show

I seldom write to newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. But this time (after Pamela Lannom’s Feb. 6 column), it seems worth it.

There’s a song that goes like this:

“Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,

Shake your booty, shake your booty,

Oh, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake, shake,

Shake your booty, shake your booty ...”

And, that’s pretty much what the halftime show was all about at this year’s Super Bowl.

The Super Bowl is one of — if not the — biggest “sports” event in the world. I believe the halftime show should complement this amazing level of achievement.

What we should expect and demand is a halftime show with a variety of talented actors and real people honoring our war heroes and America the Beautiful and the flag and freedom and moms who bring babies into this world and our front-line defenders and doctors and nurses and so many people around the world who contribute so much every day to life.

Nah. We don’t need that. That’s old fashioned. Let’s shake our booties for 15 minutes. Yah. That’s what we do. Shake our booties. Our booties are so much more important. So original. — Don Liberacki, Downers Grove
