CHAMBER NAMES OFFICERS, Directors

Melissa Waters of Hinsdale Furriers was named chairman of the board for 2020 for the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, and Bob Smith of Corporate Risk Management will serve as vice chairman.

New directors are Andrea Kaspar of J. McLaughlin, Paige Logan of Event Staffing by Paige and J. Ford Sunderland of Sterling & Knight Jewelry & Pawn.

AUTHOR RELEASES NEW PICTURE BOOK

Bill Barre of Hinsdale has a new picture book, “Living Round In A Square World,” available on Amazon.

It makes use of simple geometric shapes to tell a fun, inspiring story of acceptance, tolerance and diversity. The book is targeted at kids ages 5 to 8.

Barre is a 30-year Hinsdale resident who also has published “Behind the Manipulation: The Art of Advertising Copywriting” and uses the book in the classes he teaches at Central Michigan University. He also has taught at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and spent 30 years in advertising.

CENTRAL WINS SPORTS CONTEST

Karen Russo’s sports marketing class at Hinsdale Central High School took first place in the Sports Career Consulting LLC’s fifth annual fantasy football sports marketing competition. This is the second time the school has won the competition, making it the first two-time champion in league history.

The nationwide contest requires students to use concepts they learned in class to complete a series of challenges designed to address various sports business strategies (e.g., branding, marketing plan, promotion, sponsorships and digital marketing).

Class members are Chris Araujo, Weston Ball, Charlie Boomer, Catcher Brown, Kendall Butler, Ben Cosentino, Jack Costello, Jack Ferrino, Charlie Herbst, John King, Lauren McGarry, Riley O’Connor, Jamie Pecilunas, Abby Ryan, Avery Secol and Ana Suchy.

CMF WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

Community Memorial Foundation has announced the addition of three new members to its board of directors: Dr. Bonny Chen, Dr. Kris Lonsway and Dr. Keith Suchy.

Each our new board members has a long history of service to CMF communities. Dr. Chen is the chief health information officer at AMITA Health and an international surveyor for The Joint Commission. Dr. Lonsway is the founder and president of Lonsway Consulting LLC and is vice president of the LaGrange Elementary District 105 Board. Dr. Suchy practices dentistry in Westchester and also serves on the board of the Chicago Dental Society Foundation.

While new to their board roles, all three have served on advisory councils for the Foundation’s Regional Health and Human Services Agenda.

ATTORNEY ELECTED TO BOARD

Karyn Vanderwarren, attorney at law and CPA, was recently elected to the board of the Illinois Real Estate Lawyers Association. Vanderwarren, who has an office in Hinsdale, was appointed to the board in 2018 to complete a vacant term and then was elected to the board last week for a three-year term.

The IRELA is the only bar association representing the interests solely of real estate attorneys in Illinois. Its purpose is to protect Illinois consumers and businesses in real estate transactions and to protect the real estate law profession.
