Thanksgiving Meal Drive

Through Nov. 25

HCS Family Services

A $25 donation will provide the following items for a local family in need: a 12- to 14-pound turkey, stuffing mix, potatoes, vegetables, fruit, gravy, dessert and a beverage. HCS will provide traditional Thanksgiving meal boxes to more than 200 pantry guests this month. Gifts may be dedicated to a loved one at checkout.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child will collect shoeboxes filled with gifts during its national collection week to distribute to children in need. For directions on packing a shoebox, see the website listed above.

Bring a friend, sip bubbly and spread holiday cheer at the Hinsdale Auxiliary of Children’s Home and Aid annual party. Organizers are collecting gift cards for foster teens from Wal Mart, Best Buy, H&M, GameStop, Jewel Osco, Amazon, Target and gas stations. Vintage Charm will donate 15 percent of sales to Children’s Home and Aid, and the Green Goddess Charitable Foundation will match the amount. Time: 6 to 9 p.m.

Lux Living Holiday Party

Lifetherapy, owned by Hinsdale’s Lynette Lovelace, will host this unique shopping event offering one-of-a-kind gifts from vendors such as Mucci de Firenze of Hinsdale. Enjoy wine tasting hosted by Standard Market, wood-fired pizzas from Billy Bricks Pizza Truck and live music from by Abbey Carlson and Nicholas Stankus from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations will support R33M, the Ross K MacNeill Foundation, which works to end pediatric brain cancer. Time: noon to 9 p.m. Suggested donation: $20.

Revel in the holiday spirit with award-winning recording artist Gavin Coyle as he brings his annual program to the Mac, performing with pianist Paul Burgess, harpist Karen Banaszewski and flautist Joanne Diebold. Concert proceeds benefit People’s Resource Center, a local nonprofit serving DuPage County. Time: 8 p.m. Tickets: $35.

Shop at Spirit Village, an alternative shopping market, where attendees can make contributions toward food and clothes for children or medical transportation and water for a village. A card that describes the project can be used to present the gift. Enjoy live music, treats and kids activities (petting zoo, face painting, balloons and a craft). A $5 lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Enjoy a festive arrangement of new and traditional Christmas music, featuring the church’s adult and children’s choir and representatives from St. Ignatius and Hinsdale Central high schools along with other fun surprises. The goal is to raise more than $6,000, with proceeds supporting activities within the parish. Tickets are available at the parish office and at the door. Time: 7:30 to 9 to p.m. Tickets: $15.

Toys for Tots

The Marine Toys for Tots program is collecting new, unwrapped toys and money for new toys to deliver a message of hope to youngsters in need.

Holiday Cards

District 86 Transition Center >Microbusiness Sales

The young adults from the Hinsdale Transition Center program have created unique handmade holiday greeting cards in three designs. Each card has been designed, crafted and wrapped by young adults with disabilities. Proceeds help support social outings for the program. Cost is $8 per set of five cards/envelopes plus shipping ($2 to $6 depending on size of order).
