Class of 2019 sporting standouts extend playing careers at college programs

In the second half of our annual round-up of recent Hinsdale Central student-athlete graduates advancing to college sports programs, we continue sharing the new undergrads' thoughts about their fondest Red Devil memories and collegiate aspirations.

Layo Adelakun

DePaul University, tennis

I'll remember: the team atmosphere and having that bond with all the other players. The first day of the state tournament I had a lot of adrenaline, and it was just really cool.

I'm looking forward to: making relationships again on my new team and having more responsibility to do well to help the university do well.

Drew Azinger

Colorado Mesa University, lacrosse

I'll remember: the 8 p.m. practices on Dickinson in the dark or rain or even snow, driving with my buddies to practice and hanging in the locker room listening to music before games.

I'm looking forward to: seeing how big of a transition high school lacrosse is compared to NCAA lacrosse, getting close with my team and just hanging out with a bunch of friends in Colorado.

Giselle Castaneda

Dominican University, softball

I'll remember: all the hard times, because with the hard times come happy memories.

I'm looking forward to: working hard in class and on the field while meeting new people.

Joe Daw

Tulane University, tennis

I'll remember: winning the state doubles title individually and winning the team title last year.

I'm looking forward to: getting to travel and hang out with the guys on the team.

Cameron Dunne

Lynn University, swim

I'll remember: the varsity winter double practice sessions in cold and snow and the commitment to do our best all season with the uncertainty

of the referendum.

I'm looking forward to: the accelerated business program that allows me to complete my MBA and to be joining the men's swim team, which competes in the Sunshine Conference, as I won't miss Chicago's winters.

Conor Dunne

Seton Hall University, swim

I'll remember: being on the Red Devils swim team with my brother, plus the support of our good friends on the team and family. Racing always pushed us to do our best.

I'm looking forward to: the new adventure that Seton Hall will provide. I am very excited to swim in the Big East conference, and I want to continue to improve my technique with the goal to attend Olympic time trials next summer.

Rachel Fuechtman

Carnegie Mellon University, swim

I'll remember: being part of something bigger than myself and learning to grow as an athlete and person with the help of my teammates.

I'm looking forward to: taking the independence I've been given and making the most of it, both in and out of the pool.

Jack Glenn

Augustana College, golf

I'll remember: being on a state championship team with my best friends and how much fun we had on and off the golf course.

I'm looking forward to: making new friends and being part of a different team and competing at the collegiate level.

Anna Glowniak

Emory University, swim

I'm remember: how as teammates we pushed each other to train harder than we thought we could while still making each other laugh and smile each practice.

I'm looking forward to: meeting new people and doing some fun racing.

Zach Gooding

Augustana College, baseball

I'll remember: my teammates because they become your brothers over the course of the year and also the fan support we had at home playoff and LT games.

I'm looking forward to: growing as a person and as a pitcher, as well as having the opportunity to compete for a national championship.

Zach Griffith

Austin College, swim/water polo

I'll remember: hanging out with friends from water polo and our games during sectionals

I'm looking forward to: studying history and education and representing Hinsdale Central not only academically but also through athletics.

Samantha Guido

I'll remember: the bonding before each game of the season and how much closer we became by the end of each year.

I'm looking forward to: playing at the next level while still creating memories and friendships.

Ethan Harrast

Hamilton College, baseball

I'll remember: our spring break trip to Florida. It was a blast and some of the best baseball we played all year.

I'm looking forward to: starting to learn about things that truly interest me and being able to take the classes that I want to take.

Trystan Lundgren

Miami University of Ohio, swimming

I'll remember: how awesome Red Devil Nation was in the stands at the state swim meets and how proud I was to be a swimmer on deck and a fan for the girls during their season.

I'm looking forward to: making new memories with teammates and working hard with people who have similar goals as I do, keeping in touch with my former Red Devil teammates back home and, most importantly, having fun.

Kiernan Lynch

Saint Louis University, swim

I'll remember: the wonderful community of the swim team. The memories I have of getting to swim with my best friends and sister will last a lifetime.
